Travis & Rick did a terrific job of explaining the financing in layperson’s language. I now see the advantage to Obama’s mass solicitation of tiny donors.
on the Civic Impulse Facebook page, someone polled if “you would volunteer to be in public office.” So i went on a rant about the need for good people to manage our tax dollars.
I didn’t mention that the yearly compensation barely pays for, if it even does, the campaign funds.
The system certainly leans toward the incumbents. People seem to think the “party” will fork up the cash. But it sounds like you shouldn’t count on it; they are good for getting the petitions signed on the local level.
I don’t often think about campaign finance at the local level, so thanks for sharing.
